As you probably know, we are really grabbed by The Gambia. In December of 2003 our intention was to enjoy a holiday with sun, sea and the beach. There was enough of that, but during our stay we were and still are shocked by the poverty and harsh conditions that these people live in. It is terrible to see that for a lot of people there isn't very much perspective for the future. During our stay we regularly asked ourselves how we could possibly help.

When we came back in The Netherlands we initiated collecting money for a school in The Gambia. The collected money was well spend on teaching materials, toys, furniture, toilets and fresh water. This was the start of the Yamah Foundation.

Education is not free in The Gambia. Therefore we have been sponsoring students and kids for several years now and since 2007 we focus on helping little kids going to elementary school. Kids from very poor families that are dependent on the school not only for education but also for food. For only €8  a month you can support a student and help the school to improve the education.

Sponsors receive information about the child they sponsor, including a picture and their school results. If you want you can keep in touch with the sponsored student yourself. We hope you are enthusiastic about our work and will decide to become a sponsor.
