August 2010

"My School Harderwijk" donates 8 personal computers to The London Corner School! Monday August 9th, eight personal computers (complete with all accessories), were boarded in Rotterdam to be transported to The Gambia by ship. In late August the ship will leave. The expectation is that these 8 computers will arrive in mid-October at The London School Corner. The computers are a donation of “My School Harderwijk” (www.mijnschool.nu). Our neighbor, John van den Oudenaller, who works at “My School Harderwijk”, told me that all IT at the school was replaced with new hardware and he wondered whether we could use the older model computers. We certainly can! When the computers have arrived in The Gambia, we will give you an update on our website! Again thank you for this wonderful donation! The Yamah Foundation

March 2010 - Update by Gerwin Nijeboer

Dear everyone,

The past months have been very sad and intense for us, because of the sudden illness and the death of Trudy Duhoux. The loss of Trudy had a huge impact in The Gambia as well. During Trudy’s illness and also after her death, we have received many emails, calls and letters. Trudy was and still is thè Mom of the “London School Corner" in Serrekunda and the gratitude of the people in The Gambia is great. After her death we received an email from Saikou Marong, a Gambian boy who is helped by Jaap and Trudy to study at the university in The Gambia. He wrote us:

"It was indeed a very sad moment for me when I heard the sad news of the death of Trudy. Trudy will not only be missed by me and by you, but also widely by people in Gambia. Mama Trudy is a woman who gives so much to the poor and the helpless. It helps them to achieve their "gold". It gives hope to the hopeless and courage to the courageless.
"Behind the tears of sorrow, lies the memory of the smile".

Therefore we know one thing for sure, and that is that Jaap, Tjitske and myselfwill continue with The Yamah Foundation, with the same passion, warmth and love that Trudy taught us. The warmth and love that Trudy could give to others so well. We are very pleased that Sanne, Trudy’s daughter, will take Trudy’s place on the Board of The Yamah Foundation.
After several months of 'silence', in which the sponsorship has of course continued, Jaap and Gerwin, together with Joost and Thijs, took a trip to The Gambia in February. We have several new funds that we collected, which we are going to use for new projects. We are going to give The Yamah Foundation a new impulse and we will make sure The Yamah Foundation will make a difference!
We will give you an update about our trip to The Gambia real soon!

Kind regards,
Gerwin Nijeboer
Chairman Yamah Foundation

January 2009

Well, this is impossible to miss, Yamah Youth has a new website!! Sander van der Zwaan is the new webmaster (2002 - 2008 Gerwin) and spent his Christmas holidays programming the new site which was a lot of work. Some pages still need some work, but we are more ten half way there!

December 2008

The British School (located in Voorschoten) donated 25 laminated (in English) educational pictures and signs which will be hung in the new class rooms of the London corner school. Because the school just moved into the new building, most of the class rooms still need a make-over to look like real class rooms!

April 2008

In a mysterious way, within a week, we received six pair of glasses in the mail. It was a complete mystery to us, but with the help of Google we were able to find out that an advertisement was placed on Speurders.nl and Marktplaats.nl by Sander & Pieke van der Zwaan. Wonderful to see the reactions on this initiative.

April 2008

Since April 1st, the Yamah Foundation is official!

March 2008

Yussuf reports by email that the school found a new location. The existing contract with the 'old' school expired in the summer 2008. Luckily Sander and Pieke van der Zwaan were in The Gambia the same week Yussuf told us the news. Sander and Piek were able to take pictures and help Yussuf and us to make some important decisions. They did a great job! Pictures of the new location will be posted soon!

March 2008

The website also receives an update with the page you are reading. By regularly bringing ‘the latest news’ we think we can be able to view everything we are doing and we have done in the past. On one page you will find all the news in chronologic order of rank, with the accompanying pieces. By using this method you will always be able to find any news about the foundation.

February 2008

Yussuf sends us a total of 59 children who need sponsoring. Most of these kids can be placed with our regular sponsors. It is also great to see that new people sign on as new sponsors!

February 2008

It took us some time and energy, but we are able to send every sponsor a brochure with a picture and information about the sponsored child. Besides that, we have given every sponsor more information about the project and the country of The Gambia.

February 2008

We had contact with a notary and the company Wemes Weber Scheiberlich Notarissen are willing to take care of establishment of the foundation for just the administrative costs. By the end of March or the beginning of April the Yamah Foundation will be 100% official!

December 2007

Jaap & Trudy visit The Gambia. The cooperation we had with Sam & Vicky is ended. The contact we had with Brother Yussuf are renewed and we decide to go for a cooperation with the school of brother Yussuf.

Yamah Youth makes a new start and we make the decision to become a foundation.
